My Time Machine always seems to be backing up 20GB. I am running Fusion and Parallels each with their own VM's. Do you think the entire VM is backed up every time I make a change within the VM? Is is a single file or broken up into multiple files?

If a single file, it will need to back up 20GB every time I open the VM at all (something inside must change every time knowing windows)...

Yep. Every time there's a change to the VM, TM sees it as a change and backs it up. You'll probably want to consider excluding the VM in TM's preferences.

Yep

yeah, Time Machine sees your virtual machine as one large block. Anytime a change is made, the entire 20 gigs will be backed up.

I second removing it from via the TM prefs.
