How do you get TM to over write the old backup with the new one? I keep getting a message that it can not backup cause there is not enough space.

The issue may be that it will not overwrite the old BU till the new one is in place and there is not enough space for the two of them. So can I make it overwrite the old BU when replacing it rather than save the space ...that the new BU needs?

Thanks

May be there is better way but I would delete old backups manually then empty trash can to free up space. One time I just formatted TM hard drive and started over.

That would work but it kind of defeats the reason for having a automatic backup system if you have to go in a delete the old back up first. There has to be a way to make it delete the old backup automatically or just over write it. Other wise TM is kind of useless.
