Hi,

I just bought my first Mac (the new 2.4 GHz MacBook) and I'm trying to figure out how to make the most of my current Windows XP system and optimize my setup for backups.

Basically, what I want to do is this:

* Use XP machine as a HTPC with a Drobo connected that has all the media files.

* Use that same Drobo as a Time Machine disk, still connected to the Windows machine and shared on my wireless network.

I've come up with this:

* Format Drobo in HFS because I intend to buy a refreshed mini in the future for use as a HTPC. I won't need to reformat the Drobo then.

* Using this guide (http://mike.peay.us/blog/archives/248) I can limit the space Time Machine uses on the Drobo. (Partitions won't work probably b/c of Drobo's expandibility.) That way I always have enough room for new media files and TM won't fill up the Drobo completely.

* Get MacDrive and install it on the Windows machine so it can read the mediafiles on the Drobo. I probably have to allow MacDrive to write on the HFS disk too for Time Machine. (I will put media files on the Drobo with the MacBook via USB.)

Will this work? Especially the Time Machine part...
Advice appreciated!
