My mac has 2 partitions. I use 1 for system files (where OSX is installed) and the other for storage.

Will time machine backup everything in both partitions?

(Assuming the above answer is YES) If the backup were to be restored on a computer with only 1 partition, what happens? Does TM restore everything on to the 1 partition available? what if there were duplicate folders, files, etc?

I am just now wanting to start backing up my things, and was wondering about the questions above. Any response is appreciated. Thanks.

I have 2 partitions on my MBP; one Lion and one Snow Leopard. In Time Machine preferences, the options button will let you add or exclude any partition, folder, file, etc. on the system, so the choices are all yours. If you ever do a complete restore of your system, the total harddrive, separate partitions included, will be put back just as they were originally. You can also restore individual files or folders on either partition, as you wish.
