Hello, as from the thread title, i just plugged in my new my book external HDD and i was asked if i would use it for time machine backups. I clicked yes and TM backed up 30GB. How does it work later? Each time it does a backup it writes 30gb over and over again or just updates the previous backup? Also, if this disk is used by TM, can i also put other files that are stored on my old external HDD or this HD cna be used by TM only?

THank you.

It updates the previous backup.

You can put other stuff on it, but I usually partition so TM doesn't eat up all the free space eventually. You only really need 1.5-2x your internal hard drive space for TM...it'll delete older backups if it needs more room.

Well, it's 1tb HDD. If i leave like 400-500gb for TM it's enough, isn't it?
Can it be partitioned after already made backup ?

Mm ok, and does TM deletes the backed up files from external HDD if i delete them from my system?

My MBP hd is 500GB.
I think it's better to buy another E-HDD and use it for TM only.
