time machine wont let me restore?

Hi i recently got a new iMac, the old one was replaced instore so i backed up through time machine before i went to the shop. When i plug in the time machine it wont let me restore, it also wont let me backup because it says there is not enough room. When i go in manually to the files it says i do not have permission to access them. is there anyway around this? x

Are you using Migration Assistant?
 
Hi i did use the migration assistant, but it seems not of of my files are there. x
