Time machine

Have decided not to use the time machine on my MacBook Air just doing it manually .
I thought that I had turned off the time machine but I get a message on screen reminding me that I need to backup.
How can I turn that off Please.

Open TM Prefs
- Select Disk
- Remove Disk

For good measure, uncheck Back Up Automatically
