time machine

Last 3 back ups have read around 20 Gb .....nothing close to that has been added and back ups are only a day apart
am I missing something....

Moving a folder or renaming it will cause ALL of its contents to be backed up again. Could that be the explanation?

Check your temp files. It could be you have a lot of temp / cache files the last 3 days.
