I have my external working through Time Machine. I want to put all my movies and music I had before back on it. Can I just put them on there, and time machine will continue to work, or do I need to partition it? I assume time machine will just take up a hard drive until there is no space left, correct?

You can just put them on there. I have all my Music on my MBPro and all my Movies on the Time Machine drive. I just put them on the external then dragged them into iTunes and then deleted them from my MBPro. In other words, I can listen to Music on the go but Movies are for home only.
