Time Machine

Hello, need some advice please, i have just brought a iomega 500G firewire Hard drive and have tried to run time machine and it has taken 5 hours to do 4G why is it so slow?

Is there anyway to speed it up,

Is it a hardware/drive problem?

If you copy a file to it is it any faster?

I have seen Time Machine crawl/hang-up when it hits a corrupt file.

Unfortunately backupd logging isn't the most robust. I would look at your system.log with the console.app and see if you see any errors.

Edit: Also it wouldn't hurt to repair permissions on the boot disk.
