About a year and a half ago, I bought myself a Seagate FreeAgent Pro 320 GB External for around $100 with tax. I have been using USB this entire time, and hasn't failed me with holding my entire media collection and other stuff.

But I am considering a memory upgrade, maybe to firewire, and a smaller "shell".

Do you think I can get an external that doesn't need a power supply at least 500 GB? It might be pushing limits there, but I am only brainstorming. My hard drive hasn't given me any failure notices, so I am alright for now. I am also below the 100 GB mark, and my media is constantly growing.

Price isn't too much of a factor, but I don't want to spend a fortune.

Ideas?

You could go with a Mercury on the Go drive. They've gotten good reviews, and meet your stated needs.

They 500GB version costs $349.99 for 3 port options (Firewire 400 + Firewire 800 + USB 2.0), and $329.99 for 2 port options (Firewire 400 + USB 2.0). They are bus powered, as well. Good luck on your decision.
