Currently rocking a 2017/2018 MBP 2.9 GHz Core i7 - I think its holding up, however the battery no longer holds a charge. I think replacing the battery is upwards of $300, so wondering if its just time to upgrade.

They are all on the latest M4 chips and a new generation is not expected until at least late this year. Personally, I would upgrade this configuration given the big leap in performance, the risk of the machine developing hardware issues in the coming years and the cost of that battery.

Have a look at the Buyer's Guide for more on expected release dates etc.
