Just a quick note after pulling my TimeCapsule 5th Generation out of storage I noticed the drive was a little noisy. I am slowly decommissioning my cMP and pulled a Hitachi 10TB out it. It fit perfectly. I did not even have to modify the rubber drive cushions.
The TimeCapsule is not super fast, but very quiet and reliable. It beats the stack of USB drives next to my Mac Mini I have been using.
I would recommend some of the YouTube videos to explore how to do it. Don't follow the one of the guy who butchered some of his wires.
1. If you are careful, the rest button can stay in place
2. I carefully removed the eSATA cables from the drive and did not have to remove it from the board.
The right tools are key.
