i have 2 TimeCapsules, the old generation (like Mac Mini form) and the new generation (tower one). I have been using the old generation TC and use it as a primary router and backup device.

I moved my home office to basement and needed ethernet ports to hook up some devices/equipment, so configured the new generation TC as an extender for all the devices in the basement with the same SSID.

This seems to be working just fine, but the question is:

1. Is using the new generation TC as extender an overkill?
2. Should I just buy the cheap Wifi extender and use TC for its intended purpose?
3. Can I use the Time Machine to backup my Mac to both the TCs in this configuration, where the 2nd TC is used as extender?

Thanks in advance.
