Hi all,

I have a quite strange problem with my TimeMachine backup. Until a few months ago I had a 2009 MacBook Pro. Ever since I have used it as my main computer, so it had all my important (and less important) data on it. I decided to treat myself with a new computer (the current 15" 2,3Ghz Retina :D) last Christmas and sold my old and by then obsolete 2009 MacBook. Before I sold it though I made sure it had made several TimeMachine backups to my G-Drive Mini, and I verified the contents of the harddrive were on the TimeMachine volume as well before I formatted and sold the machine.

I wanted to start of with a fresh new MacBook, so instead of restoring that TimeMachine Backup to my new Retina, I configured it as a fresh and clean OS X install and configured it to make a TimeMachine Backup on the same external drive (the G-Drive Mini). I expected that it would create a new folder in Backups.backupdb where it would store the backups of the Retina MacBook pro, but instead it added the backup to the folder where my 2009 MBP backup was created. The only reason I can think of this is that both computers had the exact same name at the time (Being an Apple Certified Support Professional, I assumed that it still would recognize the fact that this were 2 different machines and make different folders accordingly). Even when I renamed the Retina MBP from the settings, it just changed the name of the folder inside Backups.backupdb.

Long story short: I have 1 folder in my Backups.backupdb (say 'Retina MacBook Pro') containing the usual date-named folders containing the hard drive structure. However, all folders until date X belong to 1 computer, all folders from date X+1 belong to my current Retina MacBook Pro. I have tried to copy, add or move folders within the Backups.backupdb, but that fails stating that 'backup-components can't be edited' (loosely translated from Dutch). Any ideas on how to fix this, anyone ?

Many thanks in advance!
