Hi guys,

I have a MBA 2015 and I used AFP up to now for my TimeMachine backups.
I'm trying to switch to SMB with my QNAP NAS, but it's not working:

It can find the volume, but when the backup should start, it says the backup volume is not available. Weird!
I set minimum SMB version at 2 and maximum at 3.

Any tips or should I go back to the deprecated AFP?

I use Synology NAS’s for the same purpose. I recently noticed that i forgot to turn off AFP on one of them, so I did that. One of my Macs decided that I needed to go into system preferences for time machine, remove the drive, and re-add it. And it treated it as a different drive even though, of course, it’s the same. So it started backing up from scratch.

My other macs seemed to have no trouble realizing that connecting by SMB instead of AFP shouldn’t make a difference. Didn;t bother to try and look into it further, since everything is now running smoothly again.
