I received no response in the MBP forum. This might be the better place for this.

Anyone have any idea or experience if the early 2011 mbp can take advantage of timer coalescing? Sounds like a great feature for both battery and heat reduction. Anyone who knows of any experience?

All supported Macs can. It's an OS/Kernel-level feature, not a hardware one.

Yep, this. And you can enable / disable it through terminal if you experience issues with certain apps. I had to disable it for Safari after some noticeable lag on my machine. YMMV.
