I just got a new 13-inch late 2011 MBP today. When charging, does the number that usually means how long the battery has until it runs out when not charging, mean the time it will take until full charge? I am almost certain this is the case, but if it isn't, then I'm really curious as to why it says 48 minutes when I supposedly have 78% battery.

yes. when plugged in, the timer will either tell you how much time you have left to charge to full, or say "Not Charging" if it's not charging.
