Hi everyone,

hoping to get an advice. I'm usually very careful when it comes to cleaning and using my Apple stuff. I even bought this fancy Apple cloth. Yesterday I cleaned the screen with Apple cloth and water and found out a couple of marks, so to speak. Hard to describe how it looks (even harder to take a picture of it, since it's so tiny) but it's like a tiny dot on the screen surface – like a dust particle, but it can't be wiped away.

I know how hard it can be to judge without even seeing the picture, but maybe someone here has the same experience with the MPB's screen? Or is it a small screen damage already?? I had this machine for little over a month.

Thanks in advance.

Try rubbing the spot with your finger. It might just be residue or pollution. I've had marks on my screen that wouldn't come off with a cloth.
Thank you for the answer. Wouldn’t it leave smudges on screen though?

I got the same exact thing. Like very tiny little pits. They appeared after cleaning my screen. I think it is the anti glare coating. Very strange. These screens are extremely fragile. While the coating is anyway.

Yes, exactly! What did you do to make them disappear?

Nothing lol. I now do a gentle wipe with microfiber and now use these to get the spots that wont rub off with microfiber.

Egads, guys.
Don't you know what "StainGate" is ???
(if not, you'd better read up on it)

The worst thing you can do is to "over-clean" the display on a MacBook Pro.
You'll start "flaking off" the fragile "sprayed-on" anti-glare coating !!

This as happened to all my MacBook pros it’s like little pop marks. This is why I used a screen protector this time.

Back from the dead...topic.

From my own experience it was not excessive cleaning with a soft microfibre cloth + water that caused staingate but oils on certain hands and touching it in any way, like opening the lid. That is #1. I've found that out from my own family testing. I think the anti-glare coating on new Mac models should solve that particular issue.

This still happens. I have had my screen replaced. Had used the laptop like twice since july. Opened the laptop and it had 6 dots on the screen like the op described. 3 of which you could see on white backgrounds. They look like dead pixels. Checked my wife's, she had 3. Im selling my laptop, this is silly. The screen is too soft, dust appears to be causing it. 🙁

If you've only used your laptop twice since July, selling it seems to be a sensible choice regardless.

I saw the posts so as an IT guy not needing the laptop. After get the screen replaced. I intentionally bought an expensive apple cloth. The times I used it I wiped the screen and the keyboard. Then intentionally stored it in a sleeve. I had a theory this would happen. Too many posts where I have a 2016 MPB and some windows laptops so I was able to get by. By the way the 2016 mbp gets beaten to hell by my daughter and me and theres not even a dot or scratch on the screen. Nicks on the exterior just not on the screen, its pristine. So clearly theres an issue with the coating. Google around this issue is real.
That is not a dead pixel it is a dot scratch on the screen. My first one had like 10. About half turn into visible dots. Seems unacceptable to me paying 3k+ for a laptop.

I don't care for a touch screen on my computer, but I imagine one upside is the M6 OLED MBPs will have more durable screen coatings
