Tiny grills on either side of MacBook Air's camera

I've searched for this information, but haven't yet found the answer.

There are two tiny grills alongside my MacBook Air's camera--one to the left, one to the right. The right one lights up when the camera is on, but I'm unclear on what the one on the left is.

What is the micro grill to the left of the camera for?
