Bought my iPhone in September and it arrived with 4.01 on it and I updated to 4.1 and backed up my SSH with TU.

Why is TinyUmbrella (latest version) now showing that I have SSH saved for iPhone4 4.2.1(8C148) and iPhone4 4.2b3 (8C5115c) when I am still and have always been on 4.1?

Cydia is also showing 4.2b3, is my device being recognized as someone elses?

The version of the SHSH blob TinyUmbrella can download has absolutely nothing to do with the version you currently have on your phone. TinyUmbrella can download any version that Apple is currently signing, as well as any version you have backed up on Cydia, simply by knowing your IMEI. It gets this information directly from Apple's servers or from Cydia's TSS server.

Wow, thank you I was not aware of this, that certainly makes things a lot easier.

I'm still on 4.01 on both my iP4 and 3GS. I was afraid to upgrade to 4.1 because I'm a little unclear on SHSH blobs as well.

Since I use Cydia, are the SHSH blobs automatically backed up? When I open Cydia, at the very top it says:
SHSH: iOS 4.0, 4.01, 4.02, 4.1, 4.2b3

What does that mean exactly? Should I back up with TinyUmbrella also?

If you want to do local restores, yes.

Otherwise you need to point gs.apple.com to saurik's tss server in your hosts file.

Also, its probably best to back it up in case something ever happens with the cydia server and your blobs get lost.
