As you probably noticed, iOS 5 will not allow push notifications or imessage or even find my iphone, if you don't legitimately activate.
If you had activated using redsn0w, or hactivated, these things happen.
Also, hactivation runs a daemon in the background all the time, which drains battery and takes up lots of ram

Thankfully I have an AT&T SIM which legitly activates my 3GS. I use it on tmobile with no problems.
