I have an old 17" LCD Apple Studio Display which is connected to my Mac Pro via the Apple ADC-DVI converter. I tried to run boot camp assistant to install Windows and discovered that Windows expects a VGA signal for the video. All I saw was the grey boot screen then it all went black and stayed black.
I connected another LCD monitor that has both DVI and VGA connectors but used just the VGA input using the DVI-VGA connector that came with the Mac Pro and was able to install Windows fine.
Thought I'd mention this in case anyone else runs into this problem. Quite frustrating trying to work out.
