After having my watch turn on the display several times as I moved my arm in a movie theater, I finally dug around to find out how to turn off the display without powering off the watch.

Go to Settings > General > Activate on Wrist ... and disable it there.

This can save ugly stares from neighboring theater patrons. :)

For going the movies, I switch to Modular face in red with only the time. I use the same face for bedtime, too.

image.jpeg I find by using the Modular watch face and select color to Red and then turn off all complications that works best. Red in dark doesn't show up to your neighbors at all and it's easy to see.

Nice, I like that minimal watch face. That's a good option too.

This. Your seat mates will thank you. You don't realize how bright hat little screen is until you're in a movie theater.
Power Reserve mode is another option (like this but with green numbers) that also prevents any notification taps or beeps. It's more of a one-step solution compared to switching faces and enabling DND or silent mode.
