So I am finally eligible for my AT&T upgrade, and I am looking to fellow mac users for some advice.

With all the buzz around a possible new iPhone this summer, should I wait until June to buy my first iPhone?

Thanks

If you are able to keep your current device until summer, do it. There will be a new iPhone during the summer. It may not be a completely new and unique device, but it will be an upgrade from the current one. :)

I would wait for sure.

Either you can get the new one, or buy mine from me pretty cheap after I do.

You can either have the latest and greatest, or save a ton of money.

A win win situation. :D

Though the iPhone 3G is a great phone. I recommend waiting, you won't be disappointed with this next version.

So is the next gen iPhone comign out in June time? Is there a thread on it?

There have been probably over 20 threads on this subject. It's been beaten into the ground. Phil said during Macworld that the product cycle for the iPhone is every June/July. Beyond that statement, there is no other solid information.

Phil?

Cheers, just asking as I rarely check this forum. I assume its going to have a larger capacity?

a GREAT tip for anyone looking to get the iphone is to understand that the iphone is not perfect.

In other words, know before you buy that it doesn't support MMS, doesn't copy and paste, and doesn't support flash websites. These are by far the biggest gripes seen multiple times a day on these forums.

Using just facts and history, the next Iphone should be released in June.

However, my gut tells me that due to the recession, and Americans having no money, the Iphone won't come until Fall.

I would wait until June 2010, there is a newer iPhone coming out that will replace the new one.

JW, why did you skip all that space in your post?

@Jimmy83 - "Phil?" is Phill Schiller - Marketing VP at Apple. He was the keynote speaker at Macworld.

I wrote a post on my blog that might help influence your decision on whether to buy an iPhone about competition in the Smartphone arena in 2009, which looks into iPhone, Android, Palm Pre etc. It's here, if you want to take a look: http://thephonelounge.com/?p=7.

(I hope I am allowed to post links btw - apologies if this isn't the case.

Good writeup. I'll help you with Android if needed.

Random and off topic, but if someone were to buy an iPhone 3G now, could they upgrade to a new iPhone this summer without paying more than the regular price? I heard that you have to wait one year before you are eligible for the subsidized price again.

Actually, yeah, could I do this?

No one knows, that decision is up to the carrier. I would bet against AT&T offering recent purchasers the chance to upgrade at the subsidized cost.

I upgraded my iPhone 2 days ago and here is what I thought I know that there is a going be a new iphone out this year but I thought hay I need a new phone since I sold my old one. I did not have a extra that I could use for a long time. I have a temp phone as a backup but I wouldn't use it for a long time. I also thought that there won't be that much more of a upgrade in the hardware and that there is always going to be a new model and at some point it is better to just buy what is out there. So I would look and see how long you can wait till you need a new phone and wait till then.
