First use of my Series 10 slate titanium on my mountain bike. Had some grit under the arm and its marked the watch

I've had a Series 7 black titanium for 3 years and no marks what so ever and used 3 times a week on mountain and MX bikes.

Disappointed on the materials used as love the Series 10 and don't want a Ultra as too big

Below is my old Series 7 and still totally unmarked

I know, that's what I'm saying

They said they stopped using Ceramic and used metal so it chargers quicker. So the back is now coated in the same as the main body which is PVD. I'm saying its the same as the main body and is PVD which isn't very hard wearing
Oh yeah. Absolutely! I misinterpreted what you said as it was the same as the older watch. But same coating all around is what you meant. Shame they went backwards in durability. I think only the Ultra still has the ceramic backing.

To each their own, but if you still have a S7 around, you should pair both watches and use that one when you are mountain biking.

It seems clear to me that machining method of coating the S7 is different to that of the S10 because it should not scratch like that. Bad quality in my opinion.

what is sad though is that prior to my post not one member posts about the quality being bad and that it should have never scratched like that.

S7 has a ceramic back; the S10 has a titanium back. Ceramic is harder that titanium.

If debris got under his watch (like OP said), and it was harder than the PVD (i.e. dirt/sand), it will scratch.

Yeah. Dirt and sand is just brutal. This has nothing to do with poor quality, which is why no one pointed it out. Yes, the lack of ceramic is a step backwards for durability, but that does not mean the titanium coating is of poor quality.

Dirt / sand can have pieces of debris that are harder than PVD coating.
