Using "Learn Remote" I set up a coulpe old TiVo remotes to control ATV & XBMC. The TiVo remotes are intuitively laid out, fairly ergonomic & give you the ability to fully control the ATV as well volume, mute and perhaps input (depending on the model of the TiVo remote).

It was a little tricky to get them to function in XBMC. I had to go through the "Learn Remote" a few times - learning navigation and playback buttons as though they were separate remotes. After setting up the Basic Buttons, if you go to the next step and "Set Up Playback Buttons" - they will NOT work in XBMC but learning them as a new remote (Left= Rew, Right=Ffwd, Up/Down=channel up/down, Select = Pause etc.). This still left a few keys on the TiVo remote not functioning (play, guide) so I went through the learning process again to make those keys functional. Since you can't re-use keys that have already been learned, I used the number keys when there wasn't an obvious button that hadn't been used.

Then as a final step, I copied over a modified keymap XML file (details over at XBMC.org) to make some of the buttons function more logically (for me anyhow). For example the Ffwd & Rew (or L/R) buttons now function just like they do in the native ATV interface instead of jumping 30 seconds. I also added 10 minute skip/back (up/down) & changed then menu button to bring up the OSD menu instead of quitting playback.

The wife likes the TiVo remote a lot so that along with the XML changes make XBMC more wife-friendly.
