I've been racking my brain trying to figure out why Time Machine does not recognize any suitable backup drives?

File sharing is on and I'm able transfer files from one to the other with no issues.

I'm trying to backup Sequoia that resides on the 7,1 to a TM backup drive on my 5,1. I formatted the drive as APFS and backed up Monterey on the 5,1 and then tried to backup Sequoia to the same drive but TM on the 7,1 does not recognize any drives. The 7,1 only has a single Apple SSD with Sequoia loaded.

As you can see the 5,1 backup drive is mounted on the 7,1 so why can't TM see it?

Using TM on the 5,1 I'm able to backup my profile folder on the 7,1 to the 5,1 but I need to backup the entire drive with my apps and licenses, etc.

Did you specifically set the shared folder on 5,1 to be TM backup destination?
Can't get the 7,1 to save my settings, it keeps reverting back to default. That's why TM was not able to see the drive on the 5,1. After many tries I was finally able to get TM on the 5,1 to recognize the 7,1 drive but now no matter what I try I can't get the the permissions to stick. They revert back to default when closed. Going to split the "backup" drive and see if that works: https://www.macworld.com/article/343680/how-to-format-a-drive-for-networked-time-machine-access.html

Split the TM drive but still had the permission issue, reset permissions and suddenly, Next backup in 60 seconds...

3...2..1, The network sprung to life on both machines. Woo Hoo...hooooooo!

It was kinda like the scene from Back To the Future where the Delorian shuts off and won't start until Marty bangs his head on the steering wheel. Yeah that's what it was like, only the network is considerably faster than 88mph. 😉
