TM-Problem: "Could not activate image" ?

Using TM to backup a macMini and a MBP on a TC. Sometimes backup works, sometimes not. Sometimes without any error message, sometimes with "Time Machine error: could not activate backup image". Does anyone has a idea what I could do.....? BTW, the MBP and the TC are in the same room.
Thanks for any hint!
