Just switched from ATT to Tmobile and finding that we each get 2.5gb hotspot.
I'm assuming it's throttled after that but does anyone know if using a tethering app will count towards that usage? I have one of the ones that snuck into the app store

Yes ... all your data counts toward the 2.5gb limit on high speed data, whether it's on the device, hotspot, or tethering app. Once reached, you will have slower speeds.

they will sell you blocks of data to use more if you want though im pretty sure

The $70 unlimited plan explicitly allows 2.5GB hotspot, which they track separately. The $60 2.5GB plan allows 500MB hotspot. Perhaps those illicit apps would be of benefit for those on the $60 plans, but I wouldn't be surprised if they can track it, anyway.

There are three levels ... .5gb, 2.5gb, and unlimited. Each successive level is an additional $10 per month. Tethering is limited to the first 2.5gb even with the unlimited plan.

Almost correct ... the $60 2.5gb plan has 2.5gb of hot spot available.

For those who need more hotspot usage they go up higher than 2.5GB too.

$50 500MB
$60 2.5GB
$70 4.5GB
$70 Unlimited data (on the phone), 2.5GB Hotspot
$80 6.5GB
$90 8.5GB
$90 10.5GB
$100 12.5GB
