I installed TNEF to read winmail.dat attachments, but I have two problems with it:

1. I haven't figured out how to tell Mail to always use TNEF to open the attachments, but instead have to find the program every time I click on one.

2. When I do open it that way, or by dragging the attachment to it - I don't see anything.

I suppose I could persuade my wife to use Enterouge which may possibly fix this (those attachments come from people who use Outlook). But Microsoft has said that the next version of Office Mac is the last. How do we read these attachments?

I don't know where I heard it - so it could be wrong.

And even if Microsoft *did* say it, it could be wrong.

Googling, I find some references:
http://www.macworld.com/2006/12/opinion/microsoft/ says:
  • For that reason, I truly believe that the removal of VB support from Office marks the beginning of the end for Mac Office. I fear it’s much too late to see any change in plans from the MacBU, which is too bad—the next version of Office could have been great. Instead, it seems it will simply be the last major update of Office on the Mac.
