Hey guys.

I am kinda torn this year. Questions in bold.

Coming from a 14 Pro Max who really need a upgrade in terms of smartphone health I have two choices:

The "old" 16 Pro Max.
The "ultra ugly" 17 Pro Max.

I own a Fuji X-T5 Camera I carry much everywhere .. so cameras would be "nice", but no must.
I don't use AI that much ... any hard differences here?
Both have 6'9 ... same PPI ... the 17 is by a huge margin brighter ... worth it?
Is the battery differences really noticeable?
I don't game at all...
Any other important things I overlook?
and .. how good holds the Titanium + Glass combo up in terms of scratches ? (for those using it since a year without a case) ... the 17 Pro doesn't get that well critics so far after a couple of days ...

Soo ... 16 Pro Max for me just because it visually much more appeal to me? (1.269€).
Or Pay 200€ more for a bunch of features "I" don't believe I'll need except the battery & screen brightness for 1.449 € ?

What would "YOU" do.

Thanks.

Tough call, most will say get the 17 pro max it's the newest one, will get an extra year of updates blah blah blah.

The 16 Pro max is one hell of a phone and is still relevant.

If I were you would probably get the 16 pro max.

*pushie* ... no one else?
I am really interested in some feedback.

If you can get the 16 pro or pro max for free with carrier deals, its not worth it to pay a bunch of money for the 17.

If you are going to spend $800 vs. $1000, I would get the 17 because its better performing, and you'll want a case so who cares what it looks like.

16 cameras are still excellent and still have strong zoom. The 17 does improve some things, but if the camera is truly a non-issue for you, you won't be unhappy with the 16 and it will more than do the job for a few years.

I don't know of any difference in AI between them? I'm not a big AI user, though.

16 gets plenty bright, so IMO this shouldn't be included in the reason to go with the 17.

Hard to say on the battery since nobody has had their 17 for more than a few days. But, there is a pretty decent size difference in the batteries, so from a longevity standpoint the 17 should, in theory, last longer all else being equal. Though, the 17 has a more power hungry processor, so who knows. I've seen a few early tests show even the regular 17 Pro (not the max) matching the 16 Pro Max. So over the next week or two we should know more, but it looks like the battery bump could be nice.

It's already become well-known that the 17's aluminum body scratches very easily, so if you're a person that doesn't use a case and cares about scratches, the 17 will be more prone to them. But if you use a case anyway... 🤷‍♂️

The cooling thing in the 17 seems to be a pretty big deal. It seems to really be helping keep the heat down. If you never push your 14 to a level of it getting very hot, this might be a non-issue. But if you do, that could factor into longevity as well.

Lastly, if you plan to keep your phone at least 2-3 years, it might be worth the extra 200€ b/c as strong as the 16 is, the 17 will be more future proof and probably a little less worn over the same timeframe.

I went down the 17 Pro Max road. Deep Blue it is.
Can't say I am super excited, but the price difference is just to small on passing on Peak Brightness, bigger battery and A19 Pro for some reserves in 2,3 years..

Used the 17 pro max for a week before deciding to return it. Didn't notice a difference with cameras. I don't use the telephoto often though. The battery difference was noticeable but not an issue. The 16 pro max battery is solid. I was a bit turned off by possible scratches on the 17 pro max. After a year my 16 pro max is flawless, wasn't' sure I would be able to say the same about the 17. The new features weren't worth the cost for me.
