What is the best way to extend my iPhone 11 Pro Max's battery life?

I often use my iPhone as a mobile hotspot - which seems to use a lot of power - and so I leave my iPhone plugged in all of the time when using the hotspot.

Is it better to run down the battery and then plug it in right before it dies?

Or should I leave it plugged in all of the time?

Or some other combination?

At this point with iOS 14 and the Shortcuts App, the best way to micromanage the battery charge level is buy a HomeKit compatible smart plug and make a shortcut to automatically turn the SmartPlug on and off between about 60 and 80%.
Then you can leave it plugged in forever and the battery will degrade the slowest - and never charge up to the dreaded 100% level.

Or just leave it plugged in anytime you're hotspotting and don't worry about the slightly increased degradation.
As a rule, the battery is in its least stressed state when it's charge level is at 40%. The higher the charge level, the more stressful it is in the battery. But 40% isn't a useful charge level.
You're not going to keep the iPhone forever. It's self defeating to baby the charging for years and years only to replace the phone down the line which still has a perfectly good battery

What is HomeKit?

What is SmartPlug?

So fully charging your iPhone to 100% is a bad idea?

I have noticed that when I plug my iPhone into my car's power inverter strip, it often sticks at 82% charge. Het if I plug my iPhone into my RavPower battery pack - like when I shoot video - it will quickly charge to 100%

How hard or expensive is it to replace the battery on an iPhone 11 Pro Max?

Can I do that myself, or do I have to send my phone in?

How long should the battery last on my iPhone 11 Pro Max?

I use my phone exclusively to shoot video and as a mobile hotspot and not ironically as a phone or to surf or for the apps.

When I am hand-holding my iPhone for free-from video, I use the built-in battery, but if I am out shooting for extended periods of time on my tripod, I plug it into my RavPower battery pack.

Any suggestions to maximize my iPhone's battery life is welcome.

The lifespan of lithium ion batteries is directly related to how often and how deeply they go through discharge/charge cycles. This is because the main enemy of Li-Ion is heat, and discharge/charge cycles heat them. In general terms: Shorter cycles generate less heat, so it's wise to top them off when they reach no less than 70-80% when possible.

In the OP's case: I'd just leave it plugged in. Though a better option would be to acquire a mobile hotspot and save the phone.
