To early to sell?

I have the opportunity to sell my iPhone 3G 8gb for $300 to $400. Is it worth it, and do you think it's too early?

Mind you, Im selling in preparation for the new iPhone. Although we arent 100% sure of what the new phone will have, im assuming it must be better in some way shape or form, and I dont mind renewing my contract w/ AT&T

How long are you willing to wait without an iPhone - you're looking at least 4 weeks if they launch around WWDC, or longer. Can you hack 8 weeks? Or 12?

Try pushing it towards $450-$500


And it's really up to you.
Why dont you wait and see what is announced at WWDC(acronym check?) and then sell.

Guranteed not many people will know about the new phone until it starts to be advertised.

You'll have a 1-2week bracket.

You really think I can get 450? It is jailbroken, but I thought that was pushing it.

Well I have a SE w610i, but 8 to 12 weeks does sound like a while. Thing is, im worried that by the time the new iPhone is announced people wont be willing to buy the 3G if a newer one will be released. The iPhone 3G was all over NY news when Jobs announced it.
 
What happens if the new iPhone only is updated with new software and no hardware? Then you sold it for no reason.

Um, $450 = $600-odd AUD.

That's about how much the 2nd hand locked ones go for here.

How would it be a new iPhone? Know many Mac products that had a purely cosmetic refresh, without the innards changed? I'm thinking maybe iPod nano a while back - but still wondering if the innards got changed for that one too.

This is what you have to ask yourself. No one knows when a new iPhone will be announced and ready for sale.

We can have some hints - take for example, O2 customer support, or at least managers of stores getting an update on hardware - currently, the line seems to be that there isn't any new phone that they know of, and that it's only the OS 3.0 update coming around WWDC. Once this starts changing, we'll find out. I know someone who's very likely to know a lot more than most at O2. Whether they'd tell me anything is another matter.

wow you guys are crazy... For $450 you can buy 100% brand new iphone 3G 8GB on Ebay right now and you are all saying you can get that much money for used one. I say there's no way...

I am thinking same thing right now. Sell it now while price is high and then buy new one or just wait til they announce that new Iphone coming out for sure but then i will sell my phone for a lot less... Btw: i opened thread about this last night :)

dont think so man...none of those 16gb iphones in the 700+ range on ebay are selling...who the hell would be dumb enough to do that when they can walk into an Apple, Best Buy, AT&T, or Wal-Mart and buy one for 600. I just sold a completely brand new and fully shrink wrapped and sealed 16gb for 610 total (free shipping). I realize there are still people in countries without the iphone available to them, but still....just go an look at what is actually selling on ebay.

Yeah you sold a brand new one for 610. The other guy said brand new for 450. Ive seen damaged ones selling for 300.

Well, considering that no one at AT&T truly knew about the 3G prior to it being announced, I'd say that they're telling you what they've been instructed to say to get you to buy the current model.

Just like last time, with the exception of the top brass and a few people that have to test the new model on the AT&T network, no AT&T or Apple employee will know squat until after WWDC.

Employees will get their training material about a week before the models are available for sale. Apple WILL NOT distribute that information now, only to have some snot-nosed kid spill the beans prior to WWDC.
 
I was exactly in the same dilema. However, I sold my White 16GB for $450 last month. It sucks not to have an iphone but I guess I am taking that chance hoping that the New iphone will be better than the current one. All I have to say is that it all comes down to you. Good luck.
 
Right. NOw I am being offered 360. But I'm sure I can get 400. I only payed 200 for the phone (sold my 1st gen for 200). Like others have said, after wwdc the 3G price will drop, so now I have to decide. Make a 200$ profit and take the chance, or not.

When is WWDC? Because I remember the 3g was released July 11, 08.
