I wanted to ask everyone here with a Samsung NVME SSD externally via a Thunderbolt 3/4 enclosure, are you getting the promised write/read speeds of ~2500 MB/s? Or are you experiencing the same issue I've just started going through with my 1 TB 970 Evo Plus and only getting half (~1200) of the promised write speed, as documented in a number of threads but most prominently this one (my comments start page 6): https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/external-tb3-nvme-ssd-only-800-mb-s-write-speed.2240437/

It seems to be confirmed that the 970 Evo Plus model has had issues from the start of it's release related to macOS, originally being unusable until Samsung put out a firmware update. However it's now apparently a known confirmed thing that model is listed as an exception for TB3 cases it won't reach it's proper speed.

I bought mine in Nov '20 and none of this was posted as a caution or incompatibility on the Amazon page for it and would have never chosen that model if I'd known, and am currently getting documentation or 'proof ammunition' to make a claim to Samsung for a replacement of a model that does not suffer from this, so I'm hoping the community can help with the following info:

So for all of those with a Samsung NVME SSD externally via a Thunderbolt 3 enclosure:
1- What model Samsung NVME SSD do you have?
2- What TB case do you have?
3- What write/read speeds do you get?

I called Samsung Memory Services yesterday about the 970 Evo Plus and only getting half (~1200) of the promised write speeds that's been a well documented for MacOS and that specific SSD model. The guy on the phone basically acknowledged it COULD be a problem buy because I didn't have an internal machine to test it with (only external enclosures), he couldn't rule out my external case/computer being the issue (despite me explaining to him that I tested multiple connections and different cases, and this is a known documented issue). He sent me a SSD RMA to fill out and include all the information I've gathered and forum links to support my claim.

I'm asking the community: For anyone who has 970 Evo Plus and macOS, can you please describe what speeds you are getting and if you initiated an RMA and how it went?

FYI here is an article on the controller switch: https://www.tomshardware.com/news/samsung-is-swapping-ssd-parts-too
