We have 19.50... Star Wars Squadrons needs 20.4

yes I tried it. game gives error box stating this. then quits.

we lose.

UPDATE:

sometimes the oldest tricks still work. Using a technique that used to work on the commodore 64 in the 80s.. the kobayashi maru hack. you change the test parameters. Star Wars Squadrons now works on my 2020 iMac.

  • Run regedit.exe and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0000. It may be a different key for other AMD drivers. I have the 5500M.
  • Change the key, RadeonSoftwareVersion to 20.4.2

Maybe you can try the AMD Vanguard beta program. Although I don't know if the beta drivers include Boot camp.

dunno how risky this is but if it helps anyone I went the bootcampdrivers.com route today and after a bunch of futzing around managed to play it on a reasonably well spec'd for its time 2015 MacBook Pro. Found it playable on low graphics but I'm not a gamer so idk.

How does it not work? I’m running Squadrons flawlessly on my 2010 Mac Pro that I Bootcamped back in March. Haven’t updated anything.

Ooooh it's a hardware thing too. I see.

That blows. Squadrons is a great game.

You can install version 20.10 from Radeon on a 2019 MBP 16" (not sure about iMac but likely the same). Has anyone tried that and is that sufficient to run Squadrons? I was about to buy this game since it's on sale but then I saw this thread. The most recent bootcamp radeon driver is 20.10 that I can see but not sure if that's sufficient to run this game.

this thread is about the 2020 iMac. The other computers have had their drivers updated for Squadrons.

Thank you for your service!

do your research tho. I can't remember if it was 20.04 that was required or 20.40... I may have mistyped it. I have given up playing this game in bootcamp. I may get it for my pc if I can ever find a flight stick. gamepads are the weapon of losers. :)

I had an incredibly frustrating experience with Bootcamp for a gaming attempt. Got into a reboot loop after updating my drivers (through the official method). I uninstalled it.
