Hi has anyone who had a replacement phone have its serial number start with 8 recently
Thanks

Note phones serial numbers starting with 8 are new and with 5k are refurbished
There is an unknown 7u however

I got my replacement this past Sunday and mine starts with 5K--indicating refurb. Without me even asking, the genius insisted the phone was brand new however and that he was not "lying". Lol. I guess he must have been challenged a lot when replacing iPhones.

At any rate, I'm fairly certain it is a refurb.

Same thing happened to me. 5th Av Apple store. Got a replacement iP4 starting with a 5K, I asked the genius if it was new or refurb and the genius insisted it had been never used before but didn't say the word "new".

I'm not sure if the geniuses know they're giving refurbs or if they've been told all of them are "new".

And for the record I don't care if it is new or refurb, its the same phone.

My first 2 iPhones were brand new. #1 speaker stoped working. Got it replaced with # 2. It wouldn't stay connected to the Internet. My third is refurbished. It's the best one I've had. I don't know why people make a big deal about their iphone being refurbished.

I would be fine with a refurbished iPhone, I trust they would have made it better and worst case I can just swap it all over again. I do try to avoid most refurbished things, had extraordinarily bad luck with them in the past.

Got my phone replaced with one that started with a 5. It had a yellow tinge to the screen that was very noticeable to me in comparison to my original phone. This phone also had light leaking from the top corners and an interlacing effect to the screen.

I set up another appointment and the next phone had same problems minus the interlacing issue. This phone also started with a 5. He pulled out yet another phone and this one was much closer to my original phone and guess what. The serial starts with an eight (8).

Just got a replacement yesterday and the serial number begins with an 8 and has zero issues, it actually feels better built than my launch day iPhone 4 too

First replacement at the Genius bar was a 5K, and had a faulty ringer switch.
Second one is from Apple Care, starts with 8, and is perfect.

I'm on my 3rd iPhone 4, starts with a 5k..has problems so of course its a refurb. But has anyone had luck with actually calling Apple and requesting them send a "new" iP4 rather than doing a genius bar swap?

Ever since 3GS, I seem to have bad luck with their swaps.

Got a replacement 2 weeks ago, started with 8, they said it was brand new, and it was/is flawless.

8 serial swap last week but just from past experience with the refurbs from Apple I have had 0 issues with any of them so they are not always a bad thing.

I got my phone on 7-28, monday. Dropped by the weekend and got it replaced 10 days later and mine starts with 8.
