I am running tiger on my desktop and panther on my powerbook...with all the new announcments is there a new OS just around the corner or should I spring for tiger for the laptop?

I doubt that a new OS is right around the corner (Tiger is still rather new). But who, but SJ, knows for sure?! I happen to love Tiger, and so I would have to say upgrade your PowerBook to Mac OS 10.4.

Leopard is due at the end of 2006.
 
Yeah, Leopard though will probably be the same as Tiger just small added features. For the basic computer user however, updating to the newest OS isn't a dire matter since "basic" is surf the web, email, and chat. LoL
