Toast 11 errpr -50 & 16959

I am trying to convert the VOB files on my own DVDs as I my original material, recorded and burned using Final Cut Express and iDVD the dupped in Toast

Toast 11 cannot seem to get these back to a usable format for Final Cut

MacBook 2010 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 4 GB 10.6.8. have 10.7.5 on a separate partition if that might help

error codes are -50 and 16959

Would copying the files to the HD then trying to work with them improve things?
