Hello

I’ve got a Mac Pro which I updated to High Sierra. I’ve recently purchased Roxio Toast 16 in order to get the Blu Ray burning capability. All seems in good order but on this machine I get an error trying to install the plug in which seems to be related to permissions. I’ve installed this same software on two other machines (via other purchases of Toast at work) and both installed properly as expected, only my home machine produced a generic error. I have updated this machine from earlier OS’s, but the same is true for the machines where the plug in installation worked. I can’t shake the suspicion that something is weird about my account on this computer, but it’s an admin account and the only one on the computer. I’ve run disk utility and Onyx to possibly repair anything wrong here. I’m stuck at the moment - how can I pursue troubleshooting or fixing this? Shouldn’t my admin account have the requisite permissions to do the plug in install (which happens after the program is installed)? Any help on this most appreciated.

This may help. Or... it might not.

What I would try:
1. Copy the Toast plugin file to another drive (a USB flashdrive would be fine)
2. Eject the flashdrive and remove it.
3. Re-connect the flashdrive to the Mac
4. Let the flashdrive icon mount on the desktop. DON'T try to "open it" yet.
5. Click on the flashdrive ONE TIME to select it, then type "command-i" (eye) to bring up the get info box
6. At the bottom of the get info box there should be a lock icon. Click on it and enter your administrative password
7. Also near the bottom is the "sharing and permissions" area. There should be a checkbox "ignore ownership on this volume".
8. Put a check into the box and close get info.

Now try to "copy over" the Toast plugin to where it needs to go.
Does this make any difference?
