Hello, I recently tried Roxio's Toast 9 (w/latest updates) on my new Late 2008 MBP and it keeps freezing when "filling Ram Cache" when burning a DVD. (I have only tried a DVD, so I don't know if it will work with a CD.)

My question is if there is another program that is similar to the quality Toast that will burn AVI movies to DVD to be played in a DVD Player.

I have also tried toast 8 with the same result.

Give Burn a try, it's free, and it seems like it should. I havent used .avi files in years, so I cant test it.

Do you have enough free spaces on your hard drive? (for caching)

Have you tried Toast lite? (Don't think that does AVIs though).

With the Perian Quicktime plugin, would iDVD handle it?

thanks for the replies.. I will give burn a try now and report back my status.

If Burn doesn't work, I will look into toast lite (I hadn't heard of it before)

Burn worked perfectly.. Thanks..

The only problem is that when converting the video file, ffmpeg would NOT use more than 50% of the CPU.. I think because it did not use 2 threads. I know that you can tell ffmpeg to use 2 threads and use all of the CPU when you use ffmpeg on the command line. But does anyone know how to tell Burn to use ffmpeg in multithreaded mode?

No problem.

I have no idea about the second part, unless there is a pref file you can edit to change that setting permanently.

erase dvd-drw

Does anyone know how to Finalize a cd or dvd disc after you burn an image to it. I'm trying to do a Sony firmware update disc for my BluRay player. I downloaded the file, but I can't use it for the update until I finalize it. I downloaded "Burn" and "DVD Master", but I can't figure out how to use them. Do I have to buy Toast, and does that let you erase RW discs and finalize them, etc.??

I'm not sure exactly what you are trying to do, but http://www.discoapp.com/ is easy to use and can erase RW discs

I am pretty sure there is a free trial too

Shouldn't Disk Utility Finalize and Erase RW discs?
