toast over popcorn is it worth it?

I want to back up some letigimite non illigal DVDs that I own and have filmed.

(previously I've just made mp4's)

I've got handbrake and MTR amd MPEG-Streamclip and Burn.

I've got the VLC player and flip4mac.

Obviously to fit the DVD-9 to a DVD-5 disk I need to compress the VOB

I lot of people seems to be recommending Toast, though I am not sure really given I have a lot of other programs that do various encoding is toast a real advantage over popcorn?
