Hey guys, I'm having a bit of a problem and I'm hoping someone out there can help me out.

I'm trying to burn a couple VIDEO_TS folders using Toast (the latest version which I think is 9.0.4) but I keep getting an error message that says:

"Could not record the disc because there was not enough memory. Result Code = -108"

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Toast and that doesn't help. I've tried deleting the com.apple.DiskUtility.plist file in ~/Library/Preferences and restarting (a suggestion I found via googling) but that didn't help. I've also tried burning from within a new user account and that didn't help either.

Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

Does Toast do any compression/decompression of the file before it is burned? If so, maybe you don't have enough hard drive space? (I know it's not "memory", but just a thought).

No, don't be sorry. Any and all input is welcome! :)

The two VIDEO_TS folders in question are from a dvd9. I've tried to burn them both onto a dvd5 (so yes I tried to use the fit to dvd compression option) and onto a dvd9. I get the same error message regardless. :(

And I have plenty of hard drive space so that shouldn't be a problem. The computer in use is a 2.4Ghz Alum. C2D iMac with a 500GB HDD and 4GB of RAM.

Found some results....

"What's happened is you are attempting to use a VIDEO_TS folder that is missing some of its original content. My guess is you didn't do a full disc extraction when ripping the source DVD. "

"This particular error is usually caused when there is a problem with the layout of your Video_TS folder, which is the folder that contains your video DVD content. It would be a good idea to go back to your DVD authoring application and have it re-create this folder."

God I love to hate error codes....

Hmm that sounds plausible. I actually remember MacTheRipper not being able to rip and crashing on the two DVDs in question. I had to use RipIt and just assumed that everything was fine.

I'll look into this a bit further. Thanks for the help so far, madog. :)

MAC ERROR CODE 108 NOT ENOUGH MEMORY using TOAST TITANIUM VIDEO-TS FILE

Mr. Smith doesn't know how to correct TOAST ERROR 108 but he does know how to prevent it. He uses MACTHERIPPER to decrypt (rip) the movie. If the movie is 4.38gb or less, the second and final step will be to burn it with Toast Titanium using a dvd-r. (He uses Toast Titanium 7 and 8.) If the movie is over 4.38gb, he'll either burn it with Toast Titanium using a dvd+dl or compress it with DVD2ONEX (or DVD2ONE) first and then burn with Toast Titanium using a dvd-r or a dvd+dl.

Mr. Smith has been getting TOAST ERROR 108 frequently but not every time he burns a VIDEO-TS FILE. The issue with ERROR 108 has absolutely nothing to do with RAM or HARD DRIVE availability. The error mesage is a false reading! He has 2gb RAM and 2 hard drives, 300gb and 500gb. He is presently burning with a 500gb hard drive that has over 400gb of free space. And he still gets this error message.

PREVENTING TOAST ERROR 108
Rebooting your computer won't help so don't waste your time. Resetting memory won't help. One thing Mr. Smith hasn't tried was reinstalling Toast Titanium. This may correct the problem for some time. Also, there are Toast preferences in your OS that you can delete. Mr. Smith is not talking about preferences within the Toast program that you change. These are preferences saved within your OS.

Every time Mr. Smith gets error message 108, 98% of the time it happens when he goes straight from MACTHERIPPER to TOAST. If you use DVD2ONE or DVD2ONEX (compression program) before using Toast, this error message WILL NOT pop up and prevent you from burning the VIDEO-TS file. If you don't mind compressing a movie, then you are all good. In a rare situation, you may still get ERROR 108 after using DVD2ONE. If this happens, then use DVD2ONE again.

STEPS TO PREVENT TOAST ERROR 108

1. MACTHERIPPER 2.6.6 (decrypt)
2. DVD2ONE/DVD2ONEX (compress)
3. TOAST TITANIUM 7 or 8 (burn)
