OH
Im ripping a DVD using handbrake on my propped up 15" and My istat temp reads 93 celsius before the fans kick in at 6000 rpm on the 9600GT 512mb card. This is quite hot isnt it? Now im down to 85 celcius which seems more manageable.

I thought these chips were suppoesed to run cooler than this even under full stress. should I be worried about my hardware going belly up at these temperatures?

I spent a lot of money on this computer to do most of my work at home (video and CS3 apps) and if I cant even rip a DVD safely than I am worried! Ive already reset my smc once which helped the fans kick in faster.

Is this something worth driving all the way to the apple store about?

No, provided it peaks at that temp and the fans kick in, you should be ok. At least in the sense that it is working as intended. Btw, what were the rest of your temps at that point? I'm still trying to figure out what it is that triggers the fans on these things.

The fans don't kick in until 100° C on the new Aluminium Unibody models.

Really? Even with smcFanControl and holding my fan at 3000rpm, the fan kicks in automatically after like 80C...

As soon as I start up CoD4, the fan jumps and starts running...

I'm confused
