tomtom gps on tmobile

with a tmobile phone with no data. will an unlocked iphone still catch the satellite signal and still work or is data required?

I have unlocked iphone 3gs on T-mobile. Tom Tom works just fine. From what I understand, it doesn't use any data, however what it uses is AGPS, so when you are indoors it will use the triangulation to get your location, and when your device gets a clear line of sight to the sky for the satellite, it will use the satellite's gps signal for its navigation.
