Tone at Startup?

Ever since i did the Macbook EFI Firmware Update 2.0 and Xcode Update 3.2.5 i get a tone at startup. Also, everytime i run software update it tells me that i havent installed the firmware update yet,. I have already tried to update it but it always fails during installation. Any ideas?

It looks like you're talking about a tone on start up and not the normal chime, is this correct?
If you're talking about a tone at start up, then hold the power button down until you get a long start up tone (this should load the EFI firmware update).
