I tried doing the same thing with my moms ibook. It wont work or at least thats what apple tech support told me.

you can retrieve apps from system restore disks on other machines like this:

1. put in the disk
2. open a Finder window in column view and select the disk
3. from the Go menu up top choose Go to Folder and enter ./images
4. you can then get stuff from all the individual img files for bundled apps

i used this method to get my bundled Jaguar apps into Panther. simply launching the app will install the license to the new machine. works great for me.
