Just got a error message from Mail saying that there were too many attached files and asked me if I wanted to choose a different service. The total email size was 13MB so it did not surpass Mail's 20MB limit. I have not been able to find anything about a limit on the number of files that can be attached. Does anyone know this value?

I was able to send the email successfully using Gmail.

Here is the exact error message I get when I get the message the email cannot be sent:

"Sending the message content to the server failed.
The server response was: Number of files or folders in attachment exceeds limits"

More info from me: There are about 65 pdf's in one attached folder and 75 in the other attached folder.

Can always compress both the folders and send those. Might cut down the attachment sizes a bit, and now only have two attachments.

I really don't think "size" is the issue. The whole email only totals 13MB, which is within Apple 20MB limit and the place I am sending its 20MB restriction. The error specifically talks about the number of attached files exceeding a limit, but I have Googled that and nothing comes up with that restriction.

The place I am sending the attachments to needs to be able to open each attachment to verify it's contents, so I am not sure compression file will work for them.

I've never seen this question asked and don't know of any iCloud attachment number limits but apparently you've run up against it. Have you tried attaching them with no folders involved?

They should be able to unzip and zipped folders you send.

Haven't tried that, but it may be worth a go. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Problem has been solved but not sure which of multiple things I changed fixed it. First I split the number of attachments by splitting them between 2 emails. 2nd, I attached them directly (not in a folder) at the end of the email. I also did a command line to turn off inline attachments, so they are seen as icons.
