there's a buddy list?
I really don't want to count mine but I'm sure it's over a hundred or two. I use it in conjunction with thread subscriptions and Forum Spy to find out if one of my buddies is posting something interesting.

It's actually pretty cool. In forumspy it will highlight posts by your buddies in yellow. Yellow post = possibly something I'll be interested in reading.

interesting, i may have to check it out as there are some posters who i enjoy reading

I don't know but I have a massive buddy list. Once I got over the initial fear of adding someone to it and worrying that it would notify them of it and they'd mock me for thinking that they are my buddy, I began to add lots of people. Anyone who I think has insightful, interesting, funny, clever or otherwise entertaining content to their posts often gets put in my buddy list. I like it because of the previously mentioned highlighting of their posts in the forum spy.

wow.. how do you find out if you are on someone else's buddy list? ;)

to those of you who have 100+ "buddies"... wouldn't the forum spy just be plain yellow :) lol!

There's nowhere to hide :D! I sometimes go through quick links -> my profile -> Find all posts by me. But that can be unwieldy. I'll bookmark that search link thanks BV :).

I use mine to start every session along with some other little routines I do. Hat tip to Mitthrawnuruodo for that useful piece of forum trickery.

If anyone wants to bookmark it for themselves, it's:

https://forums.macrumors.com/search/?do=process&starteronly=0&searchuser=••••••••••&exactname=1&sortby=lastpost&order=descending&searchdate=0

Where •••••••••• = your user name, with a %20 for every word space in your name.

The only thing I find useful about subscribing is that if you set it to autosubscribe every thread you post in (but with no email notification) it puts a little tick next to threads you've replied to in Forum Spy, where you haven't got this:
thread_dot_hot.gif
little arrow to tell you. I never look at my subscriptions but it's useful to have that, and I never did it in the dark days before Forum Spy. ;)

Snap!

It really is one of the most helpful tips to browsing teh MR.

^ OK, now I see a use for Spy fiends. Might have to change my ways. :)
Wow, welcome to Forum Spy. How did you live without it? :D

Of course I use Spy. How else would I know what you were up to? ;)

I never saw the need to subscribe to threads, though. Lau just pointed out a use for it with Spy, that's all. As they scroll past, I tend to just remember what threads I've posted in and which ones I need to keep an eye on. :)
