I wonder if anyone can help on this one. My friend has recently hooked his Macbook up to these speakers

When playing from the xbox 360 the sound seems fine. But through his Macbook the bass is horrible. I tried whacking it right down on the sub-woofer and playing with the equaliser settings in iTunes, but it's still annoyingly booming. The cable are anolog (white / red with a single 3.5mm plug on the other end)
